IM (Instant Messaging) is a horribly inefficient form of communication. You
type a sentence, hit return, and that sentence is displayed on the client of
everyone in the chat.
I can't think of a business reason for IM to save my soul. Most executives
can't spell and can afford cell phones.
My family is scattered across the country. We can all type fairly well. IM
is a fun way to keep in touch. There are types of humor that can only be used
in real time. IM allows us to have fun in real time. We do it 2 - 4 times a
year.
