Jabber Clients...

Just to add to this...

I find Instant Messaging very useful for 2 reasons.

1) Due to space restrictions at our office, there is usually one or more of us that are working from home at any given time. I find IM to be a very useful in passing off information and receiving notices from other people when we are not in the same place.

2) Unfortunately I spend a great deal of my time on the phone speaking with clients etc, and other in the office are tired of walking over and leaving sticky notes on my desk. Instead now people just instant message me their request and I can sometimes reply right away even when I am on the phone.

Of course never say anything on IM that you might consider to be confidential. :)

IM stands for Instant Messaging..... I'm not sure in a business sense what
you would use it for but it's hilarious if your the admin with a chat
sniffer on the network.

It is one of the most inefficient forms of communication known to human
kind. Whereby a person types a message to another person in realtime....

It has some interesting uses:

People in bad relationships have found they can be emotionally unfaithful
to their current spouse while in the comfort of their own homes.

If you have problems with intimacy then you can form a 'relationship' with
someone you are never likely to meet thereby avoiding the whole issue.

You can misrepresent yourself just so someone will chat to you, it's
interesting to find out what another person's definition of 'I look like
halle berry' can be.

on the plus side:

You can keep in touch with family on the other side of the world.

It can improve your typing skills
