SOLVED: Re: 2.6.x sound woes

Something occured to me as i was battling this.  Apparently the
application needs to know how to talk 'alsa'.  I was using an old version
of xmms (for example) that pre-dated alsa, and only knew how to do OSS.  I
just built xmms-1.2.10, selected the ALSA plugin and BAM, i've got musical
goodness.  Now i just need to see if rebuilding mpg123 will work too.
