LDAP

Could somebody please clarify this for me ?
I would like to put the address book of Outlook onto a server for sharing. A
search on Google shows that I may need to install an LDAP server.
In my case, the address book does not only include email addresses of the
people in the company but also email addresses of a lot of people outside of
the company. ( These addresses are from the customers that everybody in my
site needs to access to ).
Can I do this with LDAP server like OpenLDAP ?
I see the how-to says I need to specify the O= and C= in OUtlook settings.
Does this mean it will restrict the search in that O=/C= only ? Can I search
for addresses outside of the UNC ?
Thanks,
Vu
