I use GIMP 1.2.3 and it is fine for my rather simple needs.  Recently
have been taking "Guerrilla Guide to Great Graphics with The GIMP" for
bedtime reading.  Seems I can flip it open to any random page and find
something that makes me think "Wow, I can do that!?"

Perhaps as I learn more about it my needs will grow less simple.
