checkinstall won't work w/ my fedora core 1

I dunno about having a superior mind, but I've been using checkinstall 
1.6.0beta3 lately, don't know if it fixes your problem or not but I was 
getting quite a few failed builds with 1.5.3 as compared to 1.6.0beta3. 
FWIW, I run Slackware not Fedora.
