cups printing slow - page by page

this is very likely a function of the print driver itself. for instance, 
if you're using a driver provided by gimp-print, printing will be a 
lots slower -- but probably better overall. i'm using the gimp-print 
driver because the one that comes with cups, for my printer, shifts the 
page up and to the left just enough to be really ugly. but it is a 
world slower.

so you might check this area and see if there's another driver for your 
printer that solves the problem.
