Good GIMP Book?

Well, I'm a developer; but not a GIMP developer. And I'm a sub-amateur 
when it comes to artsy stuff and graphics so I need something that can 
be made to do simple manipulations without having to go away to a 
mountain in Tibet for 3 years.

Yes it's definitely white. For the moment I'll just keep it on a white 
background until I can learn the chant for GIMP or admit defeat and load 
up Fireworks.
