The documentation on gentoo led me by the hand on how to install a boot loader 
to a drive.  See section 23.

I'm confused by the quoting, so dep, lee, alma.

When confronted with an "unusual" boot condition, I always create a grub boot 
floppy first.  You can use a dos or linux formatted floppy.  If it's dos 
format, you must used 'menu.list' instead of the current 'grub.config'.
