Cross platform scripting language and database

Thanks for all the ideas.
I am currently looking at tcl because:
1. It is easily available for both windows and linux. I haven't verified
that it runs on windows 2000, but I will tomorrow.
2. It seems simple enuf.
3. It seems to be tied directly into tk.
4. It has a good interactive tutorial, which I am working on today.

I guess there are a number of choices, which is good news. For my simple
needs, tcl looks like a reasonable approach.

So, I know how I will be spending this snowy/rainy/freezing rain day
here in Baltimore.
