thanks to one and all. it appears that i do have pretty much what i need 
aboard; a friend at voa has aided me with figuring out tech parameters 
that are unfamiliar to me -- when i was in radio, we recorded to tape 
and edited with a razor blade, though we did have comrex and some other 
stuff to manipulate sounds with -- so i'm rip van winkle when it comes 
to this newfangled digital stuff.

fortunately, i have the people on this list.
