cp weirdness on /dev

Yes. This is a file system problem.
If I mount Machine A's share using samba on machine B, and list the file
structure on Machine A, /dev doesn't display properly. It looks just like
what I am seeing with cp and tar.
SO, what gives?
The file structure on machine A is ext2 and no devfs. Machine B uses
reiserfs and devfs. Since only /dev is affected, I would bet on devfs.
I guess my "solution" will be to tar my files to backup on Machine A
and just transfer the tarred file to Machine B. A slight annoyance but
not bad.
Well, I can't waste anymore of my morning on this. Well, I did waste
the entire morning! Gotta get ready for the Big Turkey Pig Out. This
year I have decided to take no prisoners!
