strange problem with checkinstall and spamassassin

redhat is the default if checkinstall can't determine the distro. 
There's a way to tell checkinstall (in checkinstallrc or some such? been 
a while since I ran COL :-( ) where tio pt the RPMs, at least there used 
to be. Check the checkinstall home page, there should be a FAQ on it. 
Might have to edit the checkinstall script itself, can't really remember...
