Staroffice macros

Is anyone using staroffice macros or starbasic?

If so, I'd like to get some pointers on where to start with this beast.

I am making great headway with VBA (VBA for Dummies), and would like
to know if something comparable is available in linux. For example, I
can now import multiple images easily into Powerpoint and properly size
them, set the slide properties, etc, all with a single command. Very
nice. Staroffice must be able to do something similar, but I can't figure
it out.
