Good way to start a flame war <g>, but I'd say probably none. On my older
800MZ machine, I noticed a great boost in load speed for KDE, etc., but that
seems to be less noticeable on my 1800AthlonXP, or gentoo/KDE has gotten
better in a year and a half.

Compiling a kernel to add sound support was like falling off a log. No need to
screw around with module lists, etc. FreeBSD now uses devfs, so once the
kernel is rebuilt (kernel build process automatically renames your current
kernel) everything else to get sound working was totally automatic. I
haven't done in CD burning yet, but no screwing around is required to setup
CD burners, anyiher. Apparently there is support for DVD burning as well.
The general theme with BSD is, if there is support for pick-a-peripheral, it
just works; if not, sorry Charley, wait a year or so.

Since I'm running KDE, nothing visible would tell me that I'm running FreeBSD.

In recognition that it's pretty much a linux world, FreeBSD has good
compatibility features to run linux software.

On the negative side, partition handling is definitely screwy. FreeBSD will
only work with primary partitions, so I rbuilt hdb to use only the 4
primaries for my linux, swap, home, and new BSD partitions.

The install is vaguely reminiscent of Slackware.
