Transferring old jpilot data to new palm device

As you all may know, I have spent hours trying to update my machine to work
with my new zire palm pilot, without success. I finally decided why not
use Knoppix. So, to make a long story short (details about devices,
jpilot, ports, user id's and numbers, pilot-xfer, user-install,
non-working man pages, permissions, etc., will be omitted in the interests
of brevity), I can now communicate with my zire. 

Problem is this:
I transferred my old data files from .jpilot on my old computer to the
Knoppix box, ran jpilot, which showed the old data, then sync'ed. After
the sync, all the old data was gone,just the new data from the zire.

Any insights appreciated,
