KDE fonts

Thanks to an extremely high power surge, I lost a couple of monitors and 
my HD on my main computer. I have tried to recover the data using a 
known good board but to no avail. That drive is dead. I have replaced it 
of course and installed Slack 9.0 (I was running 8.1) To my dismay the 
fonts in KDE suck big time. Mozilla comes up and the fonts in the task 
bar are almost too small to read. I've done the fonts setup in Moz brut 
that only effects the web pages I'm looking at. Sylpheed has the same 
problem as does most everything else I start up. I've tried setting up 
different font size in control panel but nothing seems to fix this mess. 
I'm running KDE-3.1.1 (didn't install kde stuff that came with 
Slack-9.0) has anyone come across this and find a fix?
