I always thought the desktop was a place WHERE you ran Linux, not what you
run ON Linux. So, when asking if Linux can run on, or is ready for, the
desktop, I think it means can it run apps associated with the desktop
(interactive client-based productivity tools, like an e-mail reader or a
text editor), rather than those associated with a server (an e-mail transfer
agent or file sharing).
