What you say is pretty much true. But I'd say that if you want to try 
out a Debian-based distribution then the coolest thing since the 
invention of the microprocessor is Knoppix. And it is all free. Try it 
out. I've used it to sell more people on Linux on the desktop than 
anything else around. It really is an impressive distribution that has 
everything for the newbie as well as for those who been around for a 
while and want all the best tools. You can run it from a CD or install 
it onto your hard drive. Version 3.2 supports XFS, Reiser, Ext3 and Ext2 
file systems. Can't beat it.
