yea, dbshut randomly fails to work, and usually just hans requiring me to
do a:
shutdown immediate
from within sqlplus.

actually, this is pretty much what i expect from oracle.  bloated software
that is full of bugs.  oh wait, am i describing M$ too?  i'm far from
impressed with 8/9i.  and dont' get me started about oracle's support
dept.
