My fault. I forgot to reboot before installing xfree86 4.2. Now that the
leftover settings from caldera's xfree was gone, everything crashed.
Welcome to my reality. :)
1. which dev is the usb mouse using? the /dev/mouse softlink isn't
pointing at the right mouse. so when I ran XFree86 -xf86config
/root/XF86Config.new, the mouse wasn't movig.
/var/log/messages indicated the USB mouse was detected properly. But I
coldn't find anything under /dev/usb.
2. are there special environment variables needed to run XFree86
locally, other than DISPLAY=:0.0 ?
