I've had EHCI support built into my kernel since the time I was using a 
special 2.4.18 kernel with SuSE 7.3- works really well with my NEC USB 
2.0 card and my first USB 2.0 device- a Smart Media reader.  Takes about 
two seconds if that to upload pictures to the HD now.  Wonder why the 
kernel couldn't have seen the patch sooner- it could have been one of 
those few times Linux beat M$ to some new technology
