i'm still not convinced that your problem couldn't have been resolved
simply by upgrading LILO and using the lba32 extension.  i think your fix
was a cheap hack, rather than an elegant solution.

i dont' think that's the problem here.  its not like she's getting an
error that the partition table is unreadable or corrupted. it doesn't seem
to be able to even access the drive.

i can't see how that would improve anything.  Linux has no way of
understanding EZBios.  if anything, its only going to add another variable
and degree of complexity.

i'm still putting my money on dropping the drive to UDMA33 on a legacy IDE
controller.
