maxtor drive issue

You might try the trick I used to solve my Maxtor 80 gig drive problem.
The drive wouldn't work in ide 2 or 3 but it worked in ide1. So I
formatted the drive in ide1 and moved it back to ide3, where it seems
to be happy.

Maybe if someone with a linux boot disk formatted that drive for her,
it might be usable by SUSE in ide0.

As an additional try, you might install Maxtor's EZbios software on
it. It is easy to remove, I think, if it doesn't do any good.
