Hard drive not detected properly by linux

I downloaded the newest version.
My version is:
LILO version 21

According to the large disk HOWTO, this doesn't support lba32 or whatever.
However, I can't figure out how to compile lilo. The instructions are just
not there. Running QuickInst warned me not to use it for anything but a new
installation, whatever that is, ./configure would run, and make returned an
error.

Anyway, my other two 80 gig drives are working fine.
