Hmm. RPM has its warts, to be sure. I'm certain the Debian package
management system has its own, although I can't say what they might
be because I've never used it. However, neither are going away, despite
their shortcomings -- gzipped tarballs have many problems as a 
software distribution mechanism, but they are as popular as ever.

With apologies to Clemens, reports of RPM's demise are greatly
exaggerated.
