Backup medium

I backup to another harddrive in the same box, but, if I were more diligent,
I could backup to a drive in a different box on my home network. I use tar
to do incremental backups everyday, so, I could, in theory, find any file
removed from my system in the last 365 days, if all were going right, which
often it is not.
With linux, you are only limited by your imagination. You could also
just use cp with the appropriate options to do a backup every day to a
hard drive. I do this for one of my boxes. A lazy way, but it works! At
least one person on this list loves rsync.
Tape drives may be cheap but the tape may be expensive. And, one bad
spot on the tap might spell the end for your data. Tape drives are also
slow and noisy and require user intervention.
Finding an old PC, installing linux on it with a network connection, and
a big hard drive, might be a fairly cheap way to backup up your computers.
