How to recover the first .config file

It concerns RedHat 7.1
At the installation there is no .config* in
/usr/src/linux.
There is effectively a file
/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/defconfig.
But I think, in my tests, that the closest is to use
one of the files in /usr/src/linux/configs like
kernel-i686-config (function load in 'make xconfig')
and to add to it the elements suited to the
configuration.
