SOLVED: Networking Problem -- DOAH!

Thanks for the ideas and help.  I know a lot more about debugging networks,
now.

Somehow, when I rearranged my workspace, I managed to plug the workstation
into the "uplink" port on the hub.  Now why it was able to operate in any
form at all like that I have no idea, but it was exchanging data with the
firewall and sharing a disk partition!
