aww, come on, take a few risks.  worst that should happen is that it 
sucks and you reboot back into whatever you're using now  :)

How did you turn of DMA for the recorder?  hdparm ?

Yea, but since he's the only show in town he gets away with it.  Which 
leads to...

I've wondered that myself for a while now.  Do all the shiny CD burning 
GUIs out there have their own cd burning engines, or are they just 
frontends for stuff like cdrdao and cdrecord?  I've never used anything 
other than gcombust, which i know is a frontend for cdrecord.
