Editor Wars: A New Hope ...

After a lifetime of searching (or maybe it was a couple of hours) I've found 
an editor that might pass even my discerning tastes:

   http://fte.sourceforge.net/

It looks and acts very much like a souped-up dos edit. Appears to run equally 
well from console, terminal or X. Multiplatform too. Syntax highlighting looks 
good.

Now if I could just get every distro on the planet to install it by default 
instead of (oops, alongside) vi :-)
