OTOH, I also believe employees should take more than a passing interest in
their employer's financial performance and future prospects. If you're
aware the company is losing money every quarter and yet choose, given that
information, to not look for a better employer, then it should be no shock
when the pink slips come in...
Companies are loyal only to themselves and employees ought to be the
same.

compiler'] code that is worse than the straightforward or obvious
hand translation. The implication is that the compiler is actually
trying to optimize the program, but through excessive cleverness is
doing the opposite. A few pessimizing compilers have been written
on purpose, however, as pranks or burlesques.
