I recommend spending the $$$ and buying the NiMH AA batteries (Meijer's

Not only are they some of the only rechargeables which can take the
beating of digital cameras but my battery-life has gone through the roof
compared to straight alkalines (Duracell and Energizer)
On the topic of no-flash... I also prefer no-flash, but find it only
practical for outside picks. Sorry, but my digital camera is crappy
enough that the "orange-effect" is anything but nice. ;)
