Ain't that the truth!  Having a camera that takes AA has been lucky for
me.  Twice now at races in Indy and Charlotte has my camera has gotten
turned on while in the bag some how and drained the batteries.  Luckily
they sell AA's at the souvenir stands at the race tracks.
