Recompiling the kernel to the correct CPU will probably make a bit of a
difference. I've gained a noticeable, but modest, performance boost by
recompiling the Libranet 2.4.x kernel .
KDE start up time dropped by about 10 seconds on my K6-III+ 500 mHz
box.
(Compiling a kernel with Libranet's adminmenu kernel tool is child's
play (well, if the kid is from Lake Wobegone :-) )
I can't say what effect it would have with a 2.6.x kernel; that will
have to wait a bit more for Libranet 3.0, which should start beta next
week.
