I think you would be better to upgrade to SuSE 9.2 Pro rather
than just hack at the kernel itself.  We've been running SuSE 9.1
and SuSE 9.2 on several systems here with no major issues.
Upgrading the kernel without doing the rest of the system may
well raise compatibility issues.
