OT: Windows partition copy

I had no choice. I had to keep a Windows 98 partition. But I moved it
elsewhere on the disk. Now, GRUB will not boot into that partition. The
chainload stuff is correct, the partition is active, and the Gentoo
Linux partition on the same disk boots OK.

So, is it necessary to put a boot stage in the Windows 98 partition
itself, as well as the functioning GRUB stage 1 on the disk's MBT? If
so, how can I do this from Linux. I can access the Windows 98 partition
from there. But where to get the stuff to put, and how to put it there?
I guess GRUB will do the second part, if I can find the stuff to put
there.

(I wish I did not even have to ask these things...)
