It is also out of reach for a single, part-time inventor to afford to patent 
their stuff.  What I am seeing is that it can cost over $1000.00 to get a 
patent filed if you write up your own application.  (At least that is what the 
school is telling us.)  I thought $400 was steep when I did it 25 years ago.
