Remember if you are using gasoline with ethanol (alcohol),  that it will eat up your rubber O rings & seats in the generators carburetor and the fuel line itself.   Draining it completely when storing is advised.

     I fill a 5-gallon tank, then use it for my lawn mower and snow blower
if I don't need to run my generator.

     I pour some of it into a 1/2 gallon container so that it is easier to
handle when filling small engines.

     Every fall and winter, I pour the remainder into my car and refill the
5-gallon container.  I haven't noticed that it deteriorates that much over 6
months.
