X11 isn't necessary on a server. I love CentOS -especially- because it's
one of the few distros with a text-only install.
If I -really- need X11 for something on a server (like Wireshark for
diagnostics, well that's what VNC is for, and you can do that with a
minimalist wm and xterm installation.
In fact, that's how I'm rolling servers now. No X11 bloat, just raw server
stuff, and if I need something like Wireshark, I roll that out under VNC.
Just need a few library packages, not the whole damned setup.
