Well, in this case, you don't need KDE on the server, so you don't have
to tolerate plasma ... and as it happens, it's not that hard to go back to
KDE 3.5.10 on .3 and .4; install xfce from start, and then go set up the 
repos manually.

Since KDE4 was the primary thing I wasn't happy with, it's working ok for me.
