Open office is open source, and at the end of the day there are dozens
of developers
who could call a method from the command line...
However Excel 2010 just says the the file is password protected and does
not open it up.
IF it had, then one could have used open office to convert and save in
open document format
that Excel would read natively.
Still might be worth a try...
