I double-checked before hitting "send" on a 5.0.6 box, but it might be
relevant that said box is patched to the gills. All the latest sco updates
and add-on packages that can be installed on 5.0.6, it has, which brings it
pretty close to being 5.0.6.
I just tried on a 5.0.5 box, but there are some fairly large and recent
updates on that too, including at least 1 or 2 that were lp specific and
some that touch a lot of things maybe including lp.
I don't have any unpatched 5.0.5 or earlier boxes out there, at least not
ones I can get into remotely.
I have one 5.0.4 in the corner of an attic that was our own and was working
when I shut it off several years ago and so should still work, but need a
more pressing need or more fascinating question than this to pull it out and
fire it up. :)
Along the way I discovered/rediscovered, lp does not look at terminfo as I
said. It looks at termcap.
So I was right and I was wrong.
To make lp -L local work, you need to add "PN=\E[5i:PS=\E[4i:" to the last
line in the ansi entry in /etc/termcap. (and any other entries you happen to
use)
Sorry if anyone went and tried to follow those directions and wasted time
wondering what they were doing wrong.
For the record, it is good to do that terminfo edit even though it turns out
that lp -L local doesn't happen to need it.
Fact is, I always do both of these edits on all boxes. Some programs look at
terminfo (ex: the binary program "passthru" which can be downloaded from
anzio.com and is very handy)
and some progrms look at termcap (ex: filepro), so I update them both every
time.
I'm sure about the directions this time, because the 5.0.5 box had neither
the terminfo nor termcap edit. and lp didn't work. I added the terminfo
edit, and lp continued not to work. I added the termcap edit, and lp worked.
