|Subject: Remote Desktop Connection
|
|Using XP Pro and connecting to Windows 2003 server.
|
|Your default printer is created on the Windows 2003 server
|after you have made connection with up to a 40 character printer name.
|Ex. "Greg intuit printer in session #"
|
|In filePro your printer reference would be win:Greg intuit
|printer in session # , where # is a number between 1 & 5
|
|Option 1: Change the name in filePro to "win:Greg" once. Then
|every time you connect to the server, rename your printer to
|"Greg" and share it out.
|
|Option 2: Create a permanent printer named "Greg". The problem
|is my printer is on a local network (TCP/IP
|port-configuration) which is undetectable by the Windows 2003 server.
|
|Any suggestions?
|
|Thanks,
|Greg
|
|P.S. Is there a way to capture the user name for printer selection?

Greg, to make W2K3 detect your local printer:

1. Printer defined locally (no matter what port) and shared - recommend
using 8 characters or less for the share name using DOS naming conventions
(no spaces, crazy characters, etc.).

2. For your RDP connection, make certain Connect Client Printers is checked.

3. You'll need to make sure the same printer drivers are installed on the
server for your local printer. If not, you'll not see your printer. See
the System Error Log Events to verify.

To capture the user name in W2K3, use the environment variable %username%.
