You'll never BELIEVE what Nancy Palmquist said here...:

I object in the sense that I find it wholly inaccurate in this situation,
yes. Witness the wonder of Merriam-Webster:
rant:
intransitive senses
1 : to talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner
2 : to scold vehemently
transitive senses : to utter in a bombastic declamatory fashion
Neither John nor I, did anything of the sort. I rambled far less than
usual and simply cited my philosophy behind use of subroutines so people
might avoid creating a mangled tangle of code that looks something like the
results of a kitten in a yarn factory. John's dissertation was spot-on,
IMHO.
I never -try- to be disagreeable. It does, however, seem to be an innate
talent of extremely dubious merit.

John was clarifying for the masses what was not (at least to him,
apparently...and not to myself, either, although I'd have to reread the
original) blatantly and transparently clear. You cited an example that
would trigger the underired effect. I don't happen to recall you saying it
was -supposed- to be bad coding form, explicitly. Things may be in good
form and yet still generate undesirable results due to simple technical
issues, so an example of code that breaks something and an example of bad
form are not necessarily mutually inclusive.
IOW, I don't think you were particularly clear either, and I didn't see a
problem with his clarifying it for those that may have been confused by
your post. You've been dropping mistaken code and/or explanations fairly
frequently the last few days in several threads, so maybe he just wanted
to make sure it was clear for newbies or anyone in general so nobody was
confused at the end of it all. I can't speak for John, I can only guess.
But I didn't think he was out of line. Mine had more to do with personal
preference and a philosophical view of coding that will potentially keep
people out of trouble than it did your original example or your post. It
was a general observation.
> Now that you have psycoanalyzed me I can rest easy. I feel much better.
I haven't even started. What I said couldn't even begin to be described as
worth two questions on the MMPI-2. You really are blowing things out of
proportion.
> I know this will start something and I don't mean it to. I guess I was

I doubt it's going to start anything serious. If it escalates that far,
someone's simply looking for trouble.
Yes, apparently I seem misleading in tone in plain text, despite the fact
that I make zero attempt at pretense. Some people just don't get the full
range of what I'm saying and how I mean to say it from print. This has
been established.
If you -noticed- the smiley, perhaps it bears further consideration next
time around. :)
> So I will go and get back to my programming difficulties.
Enjoy!
I'm off to code a wizard... o/~ o/~ o/~
