Job Description: 	Responsible for the operation and up-time of 
enterprise level UNIX and LINUX-based servers and SAN-based storage, 
including general systems administration, configuration and patching of 
operating systems and packaged software, management of the Storage Area 
Network (SAN), and development of backup and recovery procedures. 
Responsible for collecting and analyzing system metrics for capacity 
planning purposes and for implementing proactive monitoring procedures 
and automated alerts to minimize disruptions of critical business 
applications.

Responsible for the timely resolution of system issues and the 
coordination of internal and vendor resources in restoring normal system 
functionality and identifying and correcting root causes. Provides 
on-call and after-hour systems support as scheduled by management.


Key Responsibilities:
Monitors and reports on system performance
Administers automated backup systems
Troubleshoots performance issues
Creates Trouble Tickets and Work Orders as necessary
Troubleshoots and repairs system hardware failures
Plan and prioritize tasks for multiple, simultaneous projects
Build, monitor, and manage highly available, secure UNIX environments
Manage the security and support functions for all UNIX based servers
Respond to system problems if necessary at any time (24x7) - Responsible 
for providing after-hours support
Minimum Required Skills / Competencies: 	Competencies:
Strong knowledge of the Sun Solaris, UNIX operating system, Oracle 
Database and Utilities, SQL and Utilities and Microsoft Windows family 
of operating systems .
Experience with installation and setup of UNIX based systems.
DNS and DHCP server maintenance under UNIX
Maintenance of Apache web servers on UNIX, IIS servers on Windows
Fluent in sh/bash shell programming, and at least one other structured 
language ( perl, c, c++, java, ruby )
Disk space allotment/clean up on servers
Creation of UNIX user and Windows domain accounts
Deployment of updated software packages (SSH, Apache, Sendmail, Backup 
software etc) to UNIX hosts
Solaris and Linux experience preferred
Understanding of DNS functionality, IP traffic and basic sub-netting a 
requirement
Maintain and monitor UNIX backup systems (Veritas NetBackup).
Respond to UNIX system problems and manage problem resolution through 
internal and external service providers.
Following resolution, analyze problem cause(s) and identify 
opportunities for improvement.
Implement and maintain UNIX system monitoring to ensure systems meet 
performance and availability goals.
Develop documentation in support of regular operations (operating 
procedures) as well as in response to other project or operations needs.
Knowledge of Sun enterprise servers (SPARC), Solaris, Veritas NetBackup, 
NIS, SAN technologies, scripting, Veritas Foundation Suite, Nagios

Qualifications:
5 years experience in IT operations group
3 years experience as a systems administrator
Experience in managing business critical UNIX systems
The position requires working on site at customer premises
Able to respond to system problems if necessary at any time (24x7) - 
Responsible for providing after-hours support
Assist Applications engineers with application installation, upgrades 
and problem troubleshooting.
Strong written and oral communication skills
May serve as back up or perform other tasks for other members on the team.
Ability to communicate with management in a professional and articulate 
manner
Ability to communicate with colleagues in technical terms as well as 
translate business requirements into technical action plans
Assist in evaluating new technologies and what benefit they may provide
Provide technical expertise and support for the UNIX environment. 
Maintain software and hardware platforms and review system utilization.
Act as a mentor for the professional development of other staff.
