<div dir="ltr"><div>I'm of the opinion that individual sectionals don't need to be profitable. On the whole, the sum of sectionals needs to break even or better, but I'm okay with losing money on some if it helps keep bridge active in alternate areas or otherwise helps satisfy players. I do want to see how many unique players we got at this sectional vs. Bothell, though, because that's my metric. If we're just getting a smaller group of the same players, there's not much point...but even seeing the numbers from Renton and Kent, those seem to be higher than what we see from those areas at Bothell sectionals (but might be similar to Vasa Park). <br></div><div><br></div><div>JC<br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br clear="all"><div><div class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">--<font size="1"><font style="font-family:arial;font-size:small" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><br><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small"></span></font></span></font></font></font><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"><font style="font-family:arial;font-size:small" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small">JC Chupack<br></span></font></span></font></font></font><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"><font style="font-family:arial;font-size:small" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small"></span></font></span></font></font></font></div><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"><div style="font-family:arial;font-size:small"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small"><a href="http://bridgeinseattle.org" target="_blank">Seattle ACBL Unit 446</a> Secretary, Electronic Contact, & Publicity Chair</span></font></span></font></div></font></font></div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"><div style="font-family:arial;font-size:small"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small"></span></font></span></font></div></font></font><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><font size="1"><font style="font-family:arial;font-size:small" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-family:arial"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span style="font-size:x-small"></span></font></span></font></font></font></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>

EBC had 7.5 tables on Saturday and SBC had 4.5. Some of these are people
that would normally play in a sectional if it was in a more central or
north location.<br>

While we don't want to completely ignore the southern people, the poor
attendance from that crowd is going to make southern sectionals harder
to make profitable. While Stan Roberts was pretty upset about so many
Bothell sectionals last year, I wonder if there is something we can do
(revisit profit sharing idea?) to host them in places that are going to
draw more people without drawing the ire of club owners.<br>

Erwin has acquired and provided the attendance numbers below for this
past weekend’s sectional in Kent. In a quick look, it appears striking
that there were so few players and few sessions played by players from
the southern portion of U446 and from adjacent units to the south.
Unlike players from the central and northern portions of U446 and on
northward, these players should not have been deterred by the I-5
closure. There were more players from Everett Unit (9), and almost as
many players from Mount Vernon/Anacortes Unit (4), as there were from
the Olympia Unit (5). There were as many players combined from
Maryland, Mexico, Wenatchee, Silicon Valley and Palm Springs Units (5 in
total) as there were from Olympia Unit (5). 30 of 150 Seattle Unit
attendees (20%) and of 198 attendees overall (15%) were from the
southern area of U446. 30 attendees is the equivalent of a 7-1/2 table
club game. Yvonne’s Des Moines club game drew 14-1/2 tables (58
players) on July 6 and 11-1/2 tables (46 players) on July 13 — of course
only a fraction of club players play tournaments but these are
interesting numbers for reference.
