possibilities listed:<br>
<br>
A) I don't think this is worth considering. So many strikes against it.
It is REALLY soon after our KO sectional. There is a regional at that
time in our district. It follows immediately after Penticton which a LOT
of Seattle people go to.<br>
B) This seems like a good date, with the main strike being that it is so
soon after the KO sectional. This conflicts with a few sporting things
that might draw away a couple players (Kim and maybe Jeff would be at
hoopfest, I might be at a tennis tournament) but when I put on my board
member hat this seems like a good time.<br>
C) Will lose some people who are out of town, but seems good otherwise.<br>
D) Ugh. Right after Vegas? I second Matt's opinion that the attendance
would be poor. Vegas is an easy flight from Seattle and is typically the
most highly attended NABC location of them all.<br>
<br>
One question: why do we have to give up on July 12-14? That's typically
been our weekend and we've already lined up right of first refusal in
Kent. Can we approach them and say we already have a location locked in
and that's been our typical weekend for years? It seems like having a
history of going that weekend in past years would give us some sort of
scheduling rights to that weekend next year. If their site isn't
available that's one thing, but if they are just trying to poach our
weekend I'm not sure we should have to just give it up.<span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888"><br>

in the past I would have sent this email to Tournament Committee members
only, I
would like to update the entire board on information that bears on
alternatives
and the choice for the 2019 Sun Tan Sectional.
<div> </div>
<div>Unit 439 has confirmed they plan to run the 2019 Anacortes
Sectional on
July 12-14, 2019 — thus that weekend won’t work for us. That weekend
also
would have been the 2019 weekend we would presumably have had first
right of
refusal for with Kent Commons given our rental this coming weekend. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I asked Matt Koltnow, D19 Tournament Coordinator, to weigh in on
(a) dates
for which he would OK a sanction for the 2019 Sun Tan Sectional and (b)
thoughts
on the dates, including attendance prospects. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>The window of dates for the 2019 Sun Tan is bounded on the front
end by
Penticton (June 10-16) and on the back end by Lynnwood (August 19-25).
In
between is the 4th of July; Anacortes 12-14 July; NABC Las Vegas 18-28
July. There is a regional in Eugene Aug 5-11 and a sectional in
Portland
(Vancouver, WA) Aug 16-18; though probably not untenable conflicts for
us they
are within a week of so of Lynnwood. Matt did not rule out either 21-23
June which will see either him or Jenni in Anchorage for the regional,
or the
dates of the Wenatchee progressive (7-20 July and 3 August).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>This appears to leave us with four alternatives as indicated on the
refreshed 2019 Tournament Planning Calendar, see link here:</div>
<div><a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NYcdlwx2208f2eEXPqM0ZNTzdRzmhov6w4cdUG4SkN8/edit#" target="_blank">https://docs.google.com/docume<wbr>nt/d/1NYcdlwx2208f2eEXPqM0ZNTz<wbr>dRzmhov6w4cdUG4SkN8/edit#</a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>(a) June 21-23. Falls within the dates of the Anchorage Regional
(see
note above). This would be only 3 and 1/2 weeks after our KO
sectional.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>(b). June 28-30. No conflicts.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>(c). July 5-7. No conflicts. Matt commented that "could well be
an excellent choice; it has the potential to have better than normal
Friday
attendance without the annoyance of the holiday itself.”</div>
<div> </div>
<div>(d) Aug 2-4. No conflicts. Matt’s comment: "it is the weekend
immediately after [NABC] Las Vegas. I think attendance at a sectional
that
weekend would be very poor.”</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I would like to ask focals to please check on availability of sites
on the
2019 dates above:</div>
<div>John — Kent</div>
<div>John — MIHS Upper Commons</div>
<div>Tim — Bothell</div>
<div> </div>
<div>All,</div>
<div>(Un)availability of sites will likely further winnow down our
alternatives. In the mean time, please give thought as to which 2019
dates
above you feel would be best for the Sun Tan Sectional.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Thanks,</div>
<div>Tim</div>
