I would personally be a
fan of creating a list of a significant contributions and then the free
play that goes with it. It seems like some people get noticed and get
free plays and others might not. One occasion I remember is two years
ago there was a call put out for help with tear down in exchange for
free plays. Leah stayed to help tear down to the end which made her
evening go a lot longer and then no free play ever materialized.

Maybe something like the following:

Bringing homemade baked goods (significant amount): 1 free play
Helping with set up from start to finish: 1 free play
Helping with tear down from start to finish: 1 free play
Being a designated helper for hospitality, including refilling the
water, grabbing ice/soda, and whatever else hospitality needs: 1 free
play

I don't know enough about what David does vs how he is financially
compensated to offer an opinion on him

I'm a big fan of the set up/tear down stuff because it can relieve
pressures on the board. Many responsibilities of the board like all the
stuff I do for the unit games/round robin/etc can generally be done at a
time that's somewhat convenient. In comparison, we NEED people to stay
and when people are tired or have other things going on then it can be a
duty that is at a time where we're tired and have other things we
should be doing and might also result in spouses having to stay etc.
There have been times when it is clear the people who volunteered to
stay really didn't want to and either they left and put a burden on
everyone else or they stayed and were exhausted and clearly didn't want
to be there.

We obviously don't want to hand out free plays like candy or it will
make our financials bad, but I think judicious use can help alleviate
specific pain points. Most of these duties should remain with board
members, just seemed like something to consider.
