When I asked Yvonne about the MUG game, she expressed interest with a preference for her month being January. I held off a bit on the MUG stuff due to wanting to circle back with people, understand actual sanction costs, etc. Once I figured that out better, the MUG schedule had Yvonne's game in April (which she is fine with) but she was also hoping to run one in January too if possible. I didn't feel like I had authorization for that (only authorized for 16) and wanted to wait to develop a plan for the remaining sanctions with feedback from the board. I also only have permission from the board currently to use 16 of our 24 unit game sanctions and those are all allotted between 12 MUGs, 3 Trifecta, 1 RR party, 1 Captain's Teams. Careful observers will note that this is actually 17 :) I don't know yet if the Round Robin counts against our limit of 24.

The 24 unit game sanctions seem like an asset we should use, so I'd be in favor of finding ways to use those last ~7 to benefit the clubs. Potentially just handing them out for clubs to use for their christmas party, exploring some other ideas like multi site unit championships, or maybe something else entirely. However, that seems like something to discuss with the board, come up with a plan, then share those sanctions out once we as a board know what we want to do rather than just sanctioning an extra game in January for Yvonne.

Full disclosure: I did provide Yvonne with one of the 2017 sanctions for her Christmas Party in December when she asked. I made that decision because 1) She was by far the most eager about the MUG idea, was quick to respond, and very enthusiastic, 2) All of our other 2017 unit games were further north and didn't provide much benefit to the southend folks, 3) They were about to expire unused. In retrospect, I wish we had made the same offer to all the clubs but I didn't think about it in time. It also was a learning experience for me with how the sanctioning process works and it took a bit to figure out the right place to do that.
No opinion on the picture idea. Maybe a tribute to Sharon and David Wright might also make a good subject for a SUN article at some point in the future :)
Folks,

Received a call from Yvonne this afternoon, addressing several topics including her disappointment with not getting a unit game at her Des Moines club during January.

She encouraged having David Wright's (i.e. The Sun editor's) picture added to the website, in addition to those of the board members -- I'm fine if JC / the board would like to do this. However, if we do it we should also consider whether there is anyone else whose pic should also be added -- e.g. Sharon Erwin who goes beyond the call by (a) pre-duping the boards for our tournaments, (b) acquiring attendance data reports, by location of residency, for each of our tournaments and (c) tracking the data on unit trophy races.

I alerted Yvonne that the 2018 summer sectional will be a two-day event at Kent in July. She sounded quite pleased.
